The problem is what is now filling the shelf.<\/p>\n<p>Ukrainian-language music accounted for 57% of listening in 2025, nearly double the 33% recorded before February 2022. That figure comes from the &#8220;Music has Power&#8221; study, commissioned by the Kyiv label pomitni with the analytics platform NUAM, with fieldwork in July and August 2025 across 1,800 listeners in Ukraine and 453 Ukrainians abroad. <a href=\"https:\/\/euromaidanpress.com\/2025\/11\/19\/ukrainian-language-music-consumption-jumps-to-57-as-streaming-data-shows-cultural-shift-during-war\/\">Euromaidan Press reported the results<\/a> in November 2025.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<h2>The demand side was fixed by law and by taste<\/h2>\n<p>The legal half is older than the study. A June 2022 law raised the radio quota for Ukrainian-language songs to 40% and Ukrainian-language programming to 75%, alongside restrictions on music by Russian citizens in broadcast and public spaces, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/2465\">as the Kyiv Post reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The taste half matters more for anyone shipping catalogue there:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>79% of Ukrainians still listen to music in English.<\/li>\n<li>12% listen to Russian-language tracks, predominantly by Ukrainian artists.<\/li>\n<li>86% said supporting Ukrainian music strengthens national unity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That is a market where local identity drives listening but the playlist is still majority foreign-language. It is the same shape we found in <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/poland-is-a-top-16-music-market-growing-14-its-charts-are-almost-all-polish-rap-and-a-third-of-streams-are-free\/\">Poland<\/a>, only sharper.<\/p>\n<h2>The supply side went vertical<\/h2>\n<p>NUAM&#8217;s database, as of October 2025, logged 15,837 artists in Ukraine, of whom 8,151 released at least one single that year. Total 2025 output: 67,837 tracks, roughly 6,300 a month.<\/p>\n<p>The distribution of outcomes is brutal. The top fifth of Ukrainian artists carry the audience, north of 243 million Spotify streams a month between them. The other 79.7% did not clear 1,000 listens.<\/p>\n<p>That is not a talent problem. It is a release-strategy and metadata problem, and most of it is fixable before the delivery leaves the building.<\/p>\n<h2>A third of 2025 releases involved AI<\/h2>\n<p>The Ukrainian outlet NGL.media ran 586 songs from YouTube&#8217;s weekly Ukrainian top 100, January to September 2025, through the IRCAM institute&#8217;s AI Music Detector and SubmitHub&#8217;s AI Song Checker, flagging tracks at 60% or higher probability of AI creation.<\/p>\n<p>The findings, <a href=\"https:\/\/ngl.media\/en\/2025\/11\/12\/write-me-a-hit-song\/\">published on 12 November 2025<\/a> by Mariana Verbovska and Nazarii Tuziak:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>AI-generated content made up 14% of YouTube&#8217;s weekly top 100 Ukrainian songs as of September 2025.<\/li>\n<li>A broader estimate put AI involvement in 34% of all Ukrainian music released in 2025.<\/li>\n<li>NUAM founder Oleksii Yefymenko counted over 700 AI artists by October 2025, against 101 documented in late 2024.<\/li>\n<li>One fully AI-generated track, &#8220;The Mist Dances Across the Earth&#8221; by Y.K. Music, accumulated 23 million streams and held a top-20 position in Ukraine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Why this is now a delivery field, not a debate<\/h2>\n<p>DDEX means Digital Data Exchange, the messaging standard distributors use to send recordings and metadata to streaming services. It is where AI-involvement disclosure lives.<\/p>\n<p>Two things changed in 2026 that make that field load-bearing for Ukrainian catalogue. <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/tidal-stopped-paying-ai-music-on-july-15-the-field-that-decides-if-you-get-paid-now-lives-in-your-delivery\/\">TIDAL stopped paying fully AI-generated music in July<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/ifpi-sets-global-ai-chart-rules-only-human-led-recordings-eligible\/\">IFPI set global chart rules limiting eligibility to human-led recordings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A Ukrainian label delivering a 2024-2025 back catalogue without accurate per-track AI flags is not risking a scolding. It is risking payment exclusion and chart ineligibility on repertoire that already earned the streams.<\/p>\n<h2>Where the money actually sits<\/h2>\n<p>NGL.media&#8217;s royalty math is the useful part for indie planning: roughly 1,000 to 1,500 euros per million YouTube views, against 2,000 to 3,000 euros for comparable volume on Apple Music. Platform mix, not stream count, is the variable most Ukrainian acts leave unmanaged.<\/p>\n<p>Ukrainian audiences abroad concentrate in Poland, Germany, the UK, the US and Canada, which makes territory-accurate splits and correct language metadata worth more than another Kyiv playlist pitch.<\/p>\n<h2>The September deadline nobody has circled<\/h2>\n<p>On 27 June 2026 the Verkhovna Rada adopted draft law No. 15206 by 292 votes to none, establishing Ukrainian Music Day on the third Saturday of September, <a href=\"https:\/\/open4business.com.ua\/en\/rada-has-designated-third-saturday-in-september-as-ukrainian-music-day\/\">per Open4Business<\/a>. The date references the 1989 Chervona Ruta festival. The first one lands on 19 September 2026.<\/p>\n<p>That is a national editorial and broadcast moment landing inside a quota regime that already forces 40% Ukrainian-language rotation. Releases aimed at it need to be delivered and ingested weeks earlier, with AI disclosure set per track, territory splits accurate, and publishing registered.<\/p>\n<p>We treat that AI-involvement field as a required input at delivery rather than an optional afterthought.
