{"id":10924,"date":"2026-08-04T18:16:18","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T18:16:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/navio-and-the-miths-godlvl-album-a-challenge-to-keep-growing\/"},"modified":"2026-08-04T19:01:46","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T19:01:46","slug":"navio-and-the-miths-godlvl-album-a-challenge-to-keep-growing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/navio-and-the-miths-godlvl-album-a-challenge-to-keep-growing\/","title":{"rendered":"Navio and The Mith\u2019s \u2018GODLVL\u2019 Album: A Challenge to Keep Growing"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>\u201cThey wonder if I\u2019ll ever fall off my peak \/ I got here then added like eight floors.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ugandan hip-hop veterans <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.naviomusic.com\">Navio<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.themith.com\">The Mith<\/a><\/strong> have released their first full-length collaborative album, <em>GODLVL<\/em>, treating their decades-long careers not as a finish line but as a platform to push their craft further and elevate emerging artists.<\/p>\n<p>The Mith acknowledges that the word \u201clegend\u201d still makes him uneasy. \u201cUsually, the word legend comes with, like&#8230;maybe you should stop,\u201d he said, but he has no intention of slowing down. \u201cPersonally, I don\u2019t feel I\u2019ve reached my peak yet. I feel like there\u2019s more for me to do. I want to challenge myself. I don\u2019t want to be comfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>That restlessness runs through the album, the duo\u2019s first full project since they co-founded <strong>Klear Kut<\/strong> in the early 2000s. The group\u2019s debut, <em>Mind, Body and Soul<\/em>, produced hits including \u201cAll I Wanna Know\u201d with <strong>Juliana Kanyomozi<\/strong> and helped bring hip-hop into Uganda\u2019s mainstream. \u201cWe\u2019ve become men,\u201d Navio said. \u201cWe\u2019ve gone through experiences, things with our family, personal hardships and the burden that comes with choosing this lifestyle.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>A Joint Project Years in the Making<\/h2>\n<p>The idea of a duo album had been discussed for years. After finishing <em>The Navio X Project<\/em> in 2024, Navio called The Mith early one Monday morning and said it was time to stop waiting for everything to line up. What began as a six-song EP quickly grew into a full album. For nearly two weeks, they wrote and recorded two or three songs a day, treating the studio like an eight-to-five job. \u201cWe did it exactly like work,\u201d The Mith said.<\/p>\n<p>Each brought distinct strengths. The Mith describes himself as an MC who would happily deliver 68 bars, while Navio often thinks about shaping those bars into a complete song and how it will work onstage. \u201cWhen we hear the beat, we can already see ourselves onstage with it,\u201d Navio said. The Mith added that a competitive energy pushed them both: \u201cOn my side, I was like, I\u2019m not going to slip up at all. At all!\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Showcasing Uganda\u2019s Breadth<\/h2>\n<p>The album places lyricism at its centre and rewards repeat listening. Its <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/ayra-starr-confirms-wizkid-rema-features-on-new-album-starrgirl\/\">guest features<\/a> offer a wider view of <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/new-african-music-jorja-smith-wizkid-mr-eazi-and-more\/\">Uganda\u2019s music scene<\/a>, including younger artists and the four-decade-running <strong>Afrigo Band<\/strong>. Tanzania\u2019s <strong>AY Masta<\/strong> appears on the track \u201cBeen There.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Navio and The Mith had often been asked why Ugandan musicians were not doing more to reach audiences outside the country. They found themselves repeating the same criticism before deciding to act. \u201cInstead of talking about it, let\u2019s be about it,\u201d Navio said. \u201cLet\u2019s be that example.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They point to language as one barrier: many Ugandan artists sing and rap in Luganda, while neighbouring countries use Kiswahili to cross borders. Another factor is that Uganda\u2019s industry has been kind to its own. \u201cIf you have a fan base and you feed it, they\u2019re going to keep coming,\u201d The Mith said.<\/p>\n<p>To broaden the spotlight, the album features artists such as <strong>Akeine<\/strong>, <strong>Maritza<\/strong>, <strong>Ssensamba<\/strong> and <strong>IzabelUG<\/strong>, names that sit outside the small group of stars often used to represent Ugandan music.<\/p>\n<h2>Sampling a Four-Decade Legacy<\/h2>\n<p>Working with Afrigo Band required a different kind of care. The band allowed them to sample \u201cSikulimba,\u201d a song that had not been made available to another artist in more than four decades. Navio said they had to craft their words so they were not overly intricate, aiming to capture \u201cthe spirit of Ugandan music in a band\u201d while still meeting the lyrical standard expected of
