A CMO, meaning collective management organisation, licenses music to broadcasters, bars, hotels and event promoters, then splits the fees among registered rights holders.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2026 it distributed 299.6 million FCFA, roughly 457,000 euros, to 2,766 beneficiaries.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>That is down from the 315 million FCFA it paid at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fratmat.info\/article\/2634576\/culture\/remuneration-des-createurs-plus-de-315-millions-fcfa-repartis-par-le-burida-au-15-juin-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the same point in 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>What BURIDA actually published<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>195,339,865 FCFA in author rights and 104,275,716 FCFA in neighbouring rights.<\/li>\n<li>An average of roughly 108,000 FCFA per beneficiary, about 165 euros, per <a href=\"https:\/\/connectionivoirienne.net\/2026\/06\/14\/burida-les-299-millions-fcfa-redisues-aux-artistes-refletent-ils-reellement-la-realite-du-marche-culturel-ivoirien\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Connection Ivoirienne&#8217;s breakdown<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The largest single payment barely cleared 4 million FCFA, around 6,100 euros.<\/li>\n<li>The March 2026 round was bigger: 574,156,324 FCFA, <a href=\"https:\/\/rti.info\/article-avec-video\/burida-plus-de-574-millions-fcfa-reverses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported by RTI<\/a>, going to 3,292 members <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aip.ci\/333110\/cote-divoire-aip-repartition-des-droits-dauteur-le-burida-annonce-plus-de-574-millions-fcfa-pour-3-292-societaires\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">per the AIP<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>December 2025 was the year&#8217;s outlier at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aip.ci\/291502\/cote-divoire-aip-droit-dauteur-le-burida-va-repartir-plus-de-25-milliards-fcfa-aux-artistes-le-15-decembre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more than 2.5 billion FCFA<\/a>, about 3.85 million euros.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Camara Ousmane, who runs BURIDA&#8217;s occasional-sessions desk, framed it simply for Connection Ivoirienne: copyright is the artist&#8217;s salary.<\/p>\n<p>The question is what funds the payroll. BURIDA&#8217;s largest lines are mechanical reproduction, occasional public performances, and CRBT. CRBT means caller ringback tone, the clip a mobile subscriber hears instead of a dial tone. That is the same domestic mix <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/senegal-paid-82-million-fcfa-march-most-was-ringback-tones-from-2024\/\">Senegal&#8217;s SODAV leans on<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Connection Ivoirienne&#8217;s read of the June round listed the leaks: under-declaration of usage, unlicensed play, weak collection across the informal sector, and digital tracking that has not kept pace with online listening.<\/p>\n<h2>Where the Ivorian audience actually sits<\/h2>\n<p>Didi B is the cleanest test case. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicmetricsvault.com\/artists\/didi-b\/2FwWGogJ04HZdALWeMxZA4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Music Metrics Vault<\/a> puts the Abidjan rapper at roughly 1.1 million monthly Spotify listeners. His top cities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Abidjan: 191,570<\/li>\n<li>Lagos: 154,320<\/li>\n<li>Abuja: 59,261<\/li>\n<li>Port Harcourt: 49,321<\/li>\n<li>Conakry: 31,175<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Three of his five biggest cities are Nigerian. A fourth is Guinean.<\/p>\n<p>BURIDA cannot invoice a Lagos stream. It cannot invoice a Conakry one either. Those plays generate recording and publishing income that arrives through a distributor and a publisher, on a completely different rail from an Abidjan venue licence.<\/p>\n<p>The scale gap shows up in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifpi.org\/global-music-report-2026-global-recorded-music-revenues-grow-6-4-as-record-companies-drive-innovation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IFPI Global Music Report 2026<\/a>, which put <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/sub-saharan-africa-music-market-120m-south-africa-booked-78-percent\/\">Sub-Saharan Africa&#8217;s recorded music revenue at 120 million dollars<\/a>, up 15.2 percent, with South Africa booking 78.1 percent of it. Everything francophone West Africa earns sits inside what is left, and almost none of it passes through BURIDA.<\/p>\n<h2>What an Ivorian artist or label should do about it<\/h2>\n<p>Abidjan is not short of infrastructure. Boomplay has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicinafrica.net\/fr\/magazine\/cote-divoire-boomplay-prend-ses-quartiers-abidjan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">run an office in the city since 2022<\/a>, and Warner Music Africa Francophone bases its regional operation there.<\/p>\n<h3>Run both rails, not one<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Register with BURIDA anyway. Domestic radio, television, maquis and event money is real, and nobody else collects it on your behalf.<\/li>\n<li>Treat the recording rail as separate. BURIDA pays authors and neighbouring rights holders. Streaming pays the master owner, and that payment routes through your distributor.<\/li>\n<li>Deliver to the DSPs your audience uses. A DSP, meaning digital service provider, is any streaming platform. For an Ivorian catalogue that means Boomplay and Audiomack alongside Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music, the same pattern that makes <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/diamond-platnumz-more-listeners-nairobi-than-dar-es-salaam-bongo-flava-boomplay\/\">Boomplay decisive for Bongo Flava<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Fix splits at delivery, not afterwards. DDEX means Digital Data Exchange, the metadata standard DSPs ingest. Wrong writer shares in a DDEX file become unmatched royalties that are painful to claw back.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The June figure is not an indictment of BURIDA so much as a map of its reach. It collects where Ivorian law can reach a payer, and that stops at the border. Coup\u00e9-d\u00e9cal\u00e9, zouglou and Abidjan drill stopped stopping at the border years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Distributors that treat Boomplay and Audiomack as first-class delivery targets rather than an afterthought behind the majors&#8217; preferred platforms are the ones that capture the Lagos and Conakry half of an Ivorian artist&#8217;s audience. That is the case InterSpace Distribution makes across francophone West Africa: regional DSP coverage, DDEX-native delivery, and per-track split reporting in the artist royalty dashboard.<\/p>\n<p>BURIDA&#8217;s next quarterly round lands in September.
