In the US, Individual moved from $10.99 to $11.99, Family from $16.99 to $19.99 and Student from $5.49 to $6.99, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecoustics.com\/news\/tidal-price-increase-2026\/\">ecoustics<\/a>. In Europe, Individual went to 12.99 euros and Family to 21.99 euros.<\/p>\n<p>That is the fourth price rise at a major DSP in eight months. DSP means Digital Service Provider, the streaming platforms that license and retail your catalogue.<\/p>\n<h2>The 2026 price ladder<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Spotify<\/strong> (February): US Individual $11.99 to $12.99, Family to $21.99, Student to $6.99. We covered it <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/spotify-raise-us-subscription-prices-again\/\">when it was announced<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Amazon Music<\/strong> (February): <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/amazon-music-raises-subscription-prices-in-the-us-and-uk\/\">increases across US and UK plans<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Apple Music<\/strong> (17 July): US Individual $10.99 to $11.99, Family $16.99 to $19.99, Student $5.99 to $6.99, with matching moves in the UK and eurozone. Apple&#8217;s stated reason, reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/apple-music-hikes-subscription-prices-as-a-result-of-rising-licensing-costs\/\">Music Business Worldwide<\/a>, was &#8220;rising licensing costs&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li><strong>TIDAL<\/strong> (3 August): framed by the company as continuing to support artists and rightsholders while investing in the product.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Every one of those changes was denominated in US dollars, pounds sterling, euros or Australian dollars.<\/p>\n<h2>The new subscribers are not in those currencies<\/h2>\n<p>IFPI&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifpi.org\/global-music-report-2026-global-recorded-music-revenues-grow-6-4-as-record-companies-drive-innovation\/\">Global Music Report 2026<\/a> put global recorded music revenue at $31.7bn for 2025, up 6.4%, with paid subscription streaming up 8.8% and 52.4% of the total. Paid accounts reached 837 million.<\/p>\n<p>The regional split is where it gets interesting:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Latin America up 17.1%, the fastest-growing region<\/li>\n<li>Middle East and North Africa up 15.2%<\/li>\n<li>Sub-Saharan Africa up 15.2%<\/li>\n<li>Asia up 10.9%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Futuresource Consulting&#8217;s Global Music Industry Market Outlook, updated 21 July and summarised by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecoustics.com\/news\/global-paid-music-subscriptions-2026\/\">ecoustics<\/a>, counts 865 million paid subscriptions, up 71.5 million year on year, with Asia-Pacific alone past 400 million. The two counts differ because the methodologies do. The direction of travel does not.<\/p>\n<p>None of the four 2026 price rises landed in the markets adding the most accounts.<\/p>\n<h2>What a price rise actually does to your line item<\/h2>\n<p>Spotify&#8217;s own <a href=\"https:\/\/loudandclear.byspotify.com\/process\/\">Loud and Clear<\/a> explainer describes payouts as streamshare: &#8220;If your music accounts for 1% of all streams, you get roughly 1% of the royalty pool.&#8221; That pool is fed by subscription and advertising revenue. Raise the retail price in one market and you enlarge the portion of the pool that market contributes.<\/p>\n<p>So a 2026 increase reaches your catalogue in proportion to how much of your listening sits in the US, UK, eurozone and Australia. If most of your streams are in Lagos, Jakarta or Bogota, the August TIDAL move is close to invisible on your statement. We ran the underlying arithmetic in <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/spotify-premium-naira-african-streaming-economics-2026\/\">why a Spotify Premium naira subscription funds about seven percent of a US one<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The counterweight is that the non-US markets are where the working artist economy is actually expanding. Spotify&#8217;s Loud and Clear 2026, summarised by Bruce Houghton at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hypebot.com\/spotify-loud-clear-report-2026-11b-paid-as-global-musical-middle-class-expands\/\">Hypebot<\/a>, reported $11 billion paid out for 2025, independent artists and labels at roughly half of all royalties, more than 13,800 artists above $100,000, and 85% of the new $100,000 earners based outside the United States.<\/p>\n<h2>What to check on your own statements this month<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Pull revenue by territory, not stream counts. Stream growth in a low-price market is not revenue growth.<\/li>\n<li>Calculate revenue per 1,000 streams for your top five territories separately, then compare either side of February and July.<\/li>\n<li>Where a growth market pays thin per stream, weight the release plan toward platforms with different economics: Boomplay, Audiomack, Anghami, JioSaavn, Zing MP3, KKBOX.<\/li>\n<li>Separate a price rise from a currency effect. A payout in a weakening local currency can fall even as the local subscription price climbs.<\/li>\n<li>Confirm your distributor reports at territory and store level rather than a single monthly total. Without that granularity none of the above is visible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The distribution read<\/h2>\n<p>The 2026 rises are real money and worth having. They are simply not spread evenly across a catalogue&#8217;s listener map, and that gap widens every quarter Latin America, MENA and Sub-Saharan Africa grow faster than the markets where prices went up.<\/p>\n<p>A catalogue with an audience across Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia needs delivery to the platforms those listeners actually use, plus reporting granular enough to tell a price rise from an exchange-rate move.
