The deal follows similar arrangements with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universalmusic.com\/\">Universal Music Group<\/a> (UMG) and independent licensing agency <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/merlin-signs-spotify-licensing-deal-for-ai-covers-and-remixes-tool\/\">Merlin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Under the terms, Kobalt&#8217;s songwriters can opt in to allow their works to be used within the tool, which will be offered as a paid add-on. Participating songwriters will receive revenue generated by the feature. Those who prefer not to take part can opt out.<\/p>\n<p>Charlie Hellman, Spotify&#8217;s Senior Vice President and Global Head of Music, said: &#8220;Covers and remixes begin with the song, which makes music publishers and songwriters essential partners in building this tool the right way. This agreement with Kobalt is grounded in consent, credit, and compensation for the songwriters who take part, and every creation drives listeners back to the original song.
