Ayra Starr has become only the fourth woman in the history of NotJustOk’s Afrobeats Power Ranking to reach the number one spot, and just the second Nigerian to do it, according to the outlet’s August 2026 update published this week. She displaced Burna Boy from the top of the monthly ranking on the strength of her third studio album, Starr Girl<\/em>, and its ZAYN-assisted single “Heaven Baby.”<\/p>\n

It is a small industry metric on paper, a monthly chart run by one entertainment site. But the list of who has actually sat at number one says something real about where Afrobeats’ commercial center of gravity has moved in the last 18 months, and Nigeria’s women are now a permanent fixture there rather than a novelty.<\/p>\n

How She Got There<\/h2>\n

Starr Girl<\/em> dropped on August 14, 2026 through Mavin Records and Republic Records, Ayra Starr’s third studio album and her first full-length since 2024’s The Year I Turned 21<\/em>. The album peaked at number two in Nigeria, according to Universal Music Canada’s release announcement and Wikipedia’s chart tracking for the project, a step below its predecessor’s number one debut at home.<\/p>\n

What pushed her over the top of NotJustOk’s ranking wasn’t the album’s home chart position, it was “Heaven Baby,” a piano-led duet with English singer ZAYN. NotJustOk’s Afrobeats Power Ranking has existed long enough now to have a real leaderboard of who has topped it, and Ayra Starr is only the fourth woman to do it since the metric started tracking female dominance at the summit:<\/p>\n

    What isn’t proxy or proprietary is the underlying data feeding it: a UK chart placement verified by the Official Charts Company, a Spotify daily-streams peak, and an album release with real numbers behind it. Those are the parts of this story that hold up regardless of what you think of any one blog’s monthly leaderboard.<\/p>\n

    The Bigger Pattern<\/h2>\n

    Ayra Starr already carried two Grammy nominations from the 2024 ceremony, including a Best New Artist nod, before this ranking update.
