December 25: Flytime Circle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nFlytime founder and CEO Cecil Hammond called Brandy “one of the most influential voices in R&B” and said bringing her to Lagos was “incredibly special,” per Billboard. Flytime COO Keke Hammond framed each of the six nights as having its own identity, with the R&B opener meant to set the tone before the bigger festival nights later in the week. The booking sits inside a run of South African dates for Brandy, who performs in Cape Town on December 14 and Pretoria on December 17 and 18 before flying into Lagos.<\/p>\n
Flytime’s track record<\/h2>\n
Flytime, founded in 2004, is one of Lagos’s longest-running concert promoters and has previously hosted Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Megan Thee Stallion, Boyz II Men and Bobby Brown on its stages. Last year’s December run featured Rema, Central Cee, Davido, Asake, Olamide and Flavour, with several nights selling out and the biggest crowd approaching 20,000 people, according to Billboard’s reporting. That track record is part of why a legacy R&B act agreeing to anchor the opening night is notable: Flytime isn’t a new promoter testing the Lagos market, it’s an established one deciding an R&B-specific night is now worth building around a single global name rather than folding R&B into a broader Afrobeats bill.<\/p>\n
Two different December calendars<\/h2>\n
Flytime’s run is distinct from Wizkid’s separately promoted Detty December Fest, which runs December 18-30 in Lagos with its own ticketing and lineup. Nigeria’s December concert calendar this year effectively has two large, competing multi-night programs running in parallel, on top of Davido’s previously announced three-night “Oriade” residency at the rebuilt National Theatre. Lagos’s live-music infrastructure, promoters, venues and sponsor budgets is being asked to support several premium bookings in the same three-week window, not one.<\/p>\n
Why an R&B night, and why now<\/h2>\n
Detty December’s reputation is built on Afrobeats and amapiano-heavy festival bills aimed at the diaspora-and-tourist crowd that floods Lagos every December. A dedicated R&B night, with a sponsor attached and a single global headliner, is a narrower bet: it’s targeting Nigeria’s R&B-literate audience specifically, the crowd that grew up on Brandy, Boyz II Men and Bobby Brown, rather than the broader festival-goer demographic Flytime Fest and Rhythm Unplugged are built for. It’s a genre bet inside a genre-agnostic season.<\/p>\n
What this booking actually signals is less about Brandy and more about what Lagos’s promoter economy is now capable of underwriting. A sponsor is willing to put its name behind an R&B-only night in a market where Afrobeats and amapiano still dominate ticket sales, and a promoter with two decades of history is confident enough in that audience to build a whole night around it.
