Artists, labels and other industry stakeholders are being asked to submit data and evidence.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement came one day after a federal judge sentenced North Carolina musician <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/michael-smith-streaming-fraud-mffa-urges-prison\/\">Michael Smith<\/a><\/strong> to <strong>18 months in prison<\/strong> in the first US criminal prosecution for AI-assisted music streaming fraud.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors said Smith&#8217;s operation ran between <strong>2017 and 2024<\/strong>. It used automated accounts to generate fraudulent streams of AI-created music and collect royalty payments.<\/p>\n<p>The operation involved:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Up to <strong>10,000 automated bot accounts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Hundreds of thousands of AI-generated tracks streamed <strong>billions of times<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>More than <strong>$8 million<\/strong> in royalty payments obtained by defrauding streaming platforms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Copyright Office&#8217;s public comment schedule sets two deadlines:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Initial written comments: <strong>November 23,
