The latest round also affects \u201cmore than 12 roles\u201d in Canada, representing approximately <strong>6-7%<\/strong> of UMG\u2019s workforce there.<\/p>\n<h2>Senior label departures<\/h2>\n<p>The departures include the following executives, with some moving into consulting roles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Jim Roppo<\/strong>, CEO (chief executive officer) of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.republicrecords.com\/\">Republic Records<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tunji Balogun<\/strong>, chairman and CEO of <strong>Def Jam<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ben Mortimer<\/strong>, president of <strong>Polydor UK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sam Riback<\/strong>, co-president of pop\/rock A&amp;R (artists and repertoire) at <strong>Interscope<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A day before news of the layoffs, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/rebecca-allen-to-leave-universal-music-after-27-years\/\">Rebecca Allen<\/a><\/strong> announced she would leave her position as chief artist and strategy officer at Universal Music Group UK after <strong>27 years<\/strong> with the company.<\/p>\n<p>An October 14 update confirmed Roppo\u2019s appointment as vice chairman of <strong>Warner Records Group<\/strong>. He will report to chairman and CEO <strong>Aaron Bay-Schuck<\/strong> in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<h2>Restructuring and financial performance<\/h2>\n<p>A statement accompanying the cuts said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cOur industry-leading investment in artist development has always guided that work and will continue to do so. We&#8217;re bringing in new skills and technology and connecting expertise across our teams to deliver greater global impact and efficiency. Where we have made the difficult decision to remove certain roles, we are deeply grateful for the contributions of the people leaving us.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>UMG\u2019s first-half revenue reached nearly <strong>$7.2 billion<\/strong>, an increase of <strong>5.3%<\/strong> from the first half of 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The company has also faced costs associated with consolidating its <strong>$775 million<\/strong> acquisition of <strong>Downtown Music<\/strong>, alongside limited growth in streaming subscribers. Its shares have fallen approximately <strong>33%<\/strong> year to date.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Warner Music<\/strong> has also recently cut staff, while <strong>Sony Music<\/strong> has reduced its
