It brings four products together under one name, with a dedicated website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tyson Singer<\/strong>, Spotify\u2019s senior vice president of Technology and Platform, announced the brand on 7 October.<\/p>\n<p>Singer linked the decision to Spotify\u2019s scale, with hundreds of teams working across music, podcasts and <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/spotify-is-expanding-audiobook-feature-to-over-180-markets\/\">audiobooks<\/a> for <strong>777 million monthly active users<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Spotify you know and love is more than a great streaming service,\u201d he wrote. \u201cTo make sure we have the best software for the job, we build it ourselves, and now we\u2019re making it available to others.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Four products under one brand<\/h2>\n<p>Spotify released <a href=\"https:\/\/backstage.io\/\">Backstage<\/a> as open source in 2020, began selling Confidence in 2023 and Portal in 2024, and launched Xirp this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s new is the identity,\u201d Singer wrote, saying the products \u201cwork better as one system\u201d and that Spotify had decided to \u201cdouble down\u201d rather than test the waters.<\/p>\n<p>The products cover different parts of software development:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Portal<\/strong> is a managed version of Backstage, the open-source framework Spotify donated to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cncf.io\/\">Cloud Native Computing Foundation<\/a>. Spotify says \u201cthousands of organizations\u201d use Backstage.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Spotify for Backstage<\/strong> provides premium plugins and support for organizations that host Backstage themselves.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Confidence<\/strong> focuses on product experimentation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Xirp<\/strong>, still in beta, is a development environment with artificial intelligence (AI) agents. It supports models including Anthropic\u2019s Claude, Google\u2019s Gemini and OpenAI\u2019s Codex.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Pricing and revenue remain undisclosed<\/h2>\n<p>Spotify has not published prices or revenue forecasts. Its website says the cost \u201cvaries by product and organization size.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company does not separately disclose revenue from these tools in its quarterly results, which report only two segments: Premium and its ad-supported service.<\/p>\n<p>A footnote to the announcement clarifies that the brand does not refer to <strong>Spotify Technology S.A.<\/strong>, the Luxembourg-based listed company. Spotify names Microsoft, GitHub and Atlassian among its competitors.<\/p>\n<h2>A broader software strategy<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cSpotify Technology is becoming the operating system for research and development (R&amp;D),\u201d Singer wrote, describing it as \u201cthe connective tissue that makes everything work together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He linked that ambition to AI\u2019s impact on programming: \u201cAI has made building faster than ever, but faster doesn\u2019t mean simpler.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In February, while presenting fourth-quarter 2025 results, founder and executive chairman <strong>Daniel Ek<\/strong> said: \u201cWhat we\u2019ve really built is a technology platform for audio.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gustav S\u00f6derstr\u00f6m<\/strong>, co-chief executive alongside <strong>Alex Norstr\u00f6m<\/strong> since 1 January, said: \u201cWe consider ourselves the R&amp;D department of the music industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In August, Spotify expanded its share repurchase
