Members discussed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Growth in local digital markets.<\/li>\n<li>Access to finance and <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/impala-releases-second-digital-forward-report-on-on-platform-strategies-for-indies\/\">music discoverability<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Charts and copyright.<\/li>\n<li>Opportunities for closer collaboration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>IMPALA also attended an ANMIP-hosted meeting with members and local collecting society <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.prophon.org\/\">PROPHON<\/a><\/strong>, which supports the conference.<\/p>\n<p>That meeting addressed opportunities and challenges in collecting and distributing royalties from public performance and broadcasting.<\/p>\n<h2>Ownership, copyright and sustainability<\/h2>\n<p>Ruth Barlow of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beggars.com\/\">Beggars Group<\/a><\/strong> discussed the company\u2019s work, its relationships with artists and her collective industry work, including as chair of the UK association AIM.<\/p>\n<p>Alek Bo\u0161kovi\u0107 of <strong>Sonosuite<\/strong> interviewed Barlow in the session \u2018Independence Isn\u2019t a Genre: Who Actually Wins in Today\u2019s Music Industry?\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>IMPALA Chair Dario Dra\u0161tata of Dallas Records \/ RUNDA ADRIA moderated \u2018Who Owns THIS? AI, Copyright and the Fight for Music\u2019s Future\u2019, a panel addressing artificial intelligence and copyright.<\/p>\n<p>Participants included IMPALA Executive Chair Helen Smith, Alice Oliveira of Partisan Records, Silas Schwarzkopp, artist Sebastian Beresford of The Download Generation, and Manos Dedevesis of Stay Independent \/ HERMES.<\/p>\n<p>Dra\u0161tata also chaired a discussion on the music sector\u2019s green transition and the European Union\u2019s GreenBeat Nexus Programme.<\/p>\n<p>IMPALA board member Anca Lupes of INDIERO moderated \u2018Making the Impossible: How the World\u2019s Biggest Festivals Shape Global Music\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow board member and STOMP president Kees van Weijen led a mentoring session for new music executives from Slovenia, Croatia and Bulgaria.<\/p>\n<h2>Anniversary programme and sector representation<\/h2>\n<p>Music journalist Alan Pedder interviewed Smith about IMPALA\u2019s 25 years, independent ownership and support for diverse music markets across Europe.<\/p>\n<p>The programme also highlighted an interview with Georgieva in IMPALA\u2019s Faces of the Independent Sector series, examining her view of independence and the opportunities and challenges for artists from underrepresented regions.<\/p>\n<p>Anniversary drinks brought members and other music industry participants together at the close of the celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>Established in <strong>2000<\/strong>, IMPALA represents more than <strong>6,000 independent music companies<\/strong> across Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Small, micro and medium businesses and self-releasing artists make up <strong>99%<\/strong> of Europe\u2019s music companies. Independents produce more than <strong>80%<\/strong> of new releases and account for <strong>80%<\/strong> of sector jobs.<\/p>\n<p>IMPALA\u2019s remit includes sustainable sector growth, returning more value to artists, diversity, entrepreneurship, political access and access to finance.<\/p>\n<p>The association runs award schemes and Friends of IMPALA, a programme for businesses seeking a <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/indie-music-rights-joins-impala-affiliate-programme-in-two-year-deal\/\">strategic relationship with Europe\u2019s independent sector<\/a>.
