The demand seeks evidence about training data, licensing and investment risks.<\/p>\n<p>Lightspeed, which backed Suno\u2019s Series B, C and D funding rounds, filed its motion a month ago. The labels recently submitted an opposition spanning nearly <strong>30 pages<\/strong> in the underlying copyright infringement litigation.<\/p>\n<h2>Documents and testimony sought<\/h2>\n<p>The labels want documents and communications about business risks associated with Suno\u2019s training data, including the artificial intelligence (AI) music platform\u2019s \u201cefforts or failure to license\u201d that data.<\/p>\n<p>They also identified <strong>20 topics<\/strong> for deposition testimony, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Legal risks involving training data.<\/li>\n<li>Investment due diligence.<\/li>\n<li>Lightspeed\u2019s professional relationships with Suno executives.<\/li>\n<li>Lightspeed\u2019s \u201cunderstanding of SUNO\u2019s impact or effect on the music industry.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lightspeed, a non-party represented by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lw.com\/\">Latham &amp; Watkins<\/a><\/strong>, which also represents Suno, argues that the testimony topics are \u201ceither already addressed by Lightspeed\u2019s document production or\u201d better directed to Suno.<\/p>\n<p>The plaintiffs have also sought to establish Suno\u2019s \u201ctraining number\u201d and obtain its <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/warner-music-groups-suno-deal-puts-ai-licensing-in-focus\/\">licensing agreement with <strong>Warner Music<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Dispute over the discovery cutoff<\/h2>\n<p>The labels argue that Lightspeed\u2019s repeated investments during the litigation warrant production of relevant documents created after the initial discovery window closed in <strong>June 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The public filing contains redactions, including portions of Lightspeed\u2019s investment thesis that the labels contend demonstrate \u201cthe market harm that contradicts Suno\u2019s fair use defense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The filing also cites a magistrate judge\u2019s earlier approval of a subpoena involving <strong>Udio<\/strong> investor <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/a16z.com\/\">a16z<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Separate artist lawsuit seeks delay<\/h2>\n<p>In another case against Suno, brought by artists including <strong>Tony Justice<\/strong>, both sides filed last week to move a scheduling conference from late October to early December.<\/p>\n<p>The parties cited \u201cthe anticipated complexity of this case\u201d and said they wanted:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cto discuss proposals for streamlining and coordinating discovery in light of other pending cases against Suno, which should lead to more efficient and streamlined adjudication of these proceedings in the long term.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Universal Music and Sony Music are opposing
