Spotify<\/a><\/strong> says it has excluded over 50 million tracks<\/strong> classified as spam or low-quality artificial intelligence (AI) music from its recommendation systems so far this year. The measures restrict discovery for flagged recordings while allowing music made with AI to remain on the service.<\/p>\n

The figures form part of a one-year progress update on the company\u2019s response to AI misuse. Spotify also says it removed over 75 million tracks<\/strong> during the past year.<\/p>\n

Restrictions on music discovery<\/h2>\n

The 50 million flagged tracks have not all been deleted from Spotify\u2019s catalog. They have been excluded from personalized recommendations, including Discover Weekly and Release Radar, as well as editorial playlists.<\/p>\n

Spotify uses listener reports and skip rates to help identify tracks for restrictions. Its approach targets unauthorized voice cloning, mass-generated content and automated streaming, with the stated aims of preventing royalty fraud and protecting personalized listening feeds.<\/p>\n

Labels and artist verification<\/h2>\n

Spotify has introduced \u201cAI Persona\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cLikely AI Persona\u201d<\/strong> labels for artist profiles that do not represent a human performer. Profiles carrying either label are automatically excluded from algorithmic recommendation channels, with uploader self-disclosure informing the labeling process.<\/p>\n

Under its Verified by Spotify standards, human artists who use AI in their creative process can retain verified status if they represent themselves authentically. Entirely synthetic personas are ineligible for the blue verification checkmark.<\/p>\n

Credits and royalty eligibility<\/h2>\n

Listeners can access AI Credits<\/strong> through song details in Spotify\u2019s mobile app. Participating music distributors submit these disclosures, which identify specific contributions rather than labeling an entire recording as AI-generated.<\/p>\n
