Their listening reflects deliberate choices, rather than exposure through playlists or autoplay alone.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They average about 2% of an artist\u2019s monthly audience.<\/li>\n<li>They generate more than 18% of an artist\u2019s streams.<\/li>\n<li>They account for roughly half of ticket purchases made through Spotify.<\/li>\n<li>More than half continue listening six months after discovering the artist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These listeners are also more likely to share the music with others.<\/p>\n<h2>Discovery and repeat engagement<\/h2>\n<p>Monthly listeners, followers, views, streams, impressions and subscribers measure different forms of audience activity. Those totals alone do not show whether someone returns to an artist after an initial encounter.<\/p>\n<p>Programmed listening occurs when playlists, radio stations or recommendation systems select the music. Active listening involves someone deliberately choosing an artist, with engagement ranging from occasional plays to frequent returns.<\/p>\n<p>Discovery can lead to further activity: visiting an artist page, saving a track, watching a video, joining an email list, buying a record or <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/music-tourism-and-new-audiences-drive-live-music-expansion\/\">attending a show<\/a>. There is no single point at which every listener becomes a fan.<\/p>\n<h2>Chappell Roan\u2019s early audience<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iamchappellroan.com\/\">Chappell Roan<\/a><\/strong> developed an audience before reaching mainstream recognition.
