Identify the right before pricing it<\/h2>\n

An AI licence starts with a question about permission. Which recordings or works may be used, by whom, and for what purpose? A streaming statement answers a different question: what activity did a service count and what payment followed? Putting both into a single line marked \u201cdigital revenue\u201d makes it harder to tell whether a payment covers a use of the catalogue or compensates for listening activity.<\/p>\n

The distinction matters when a company asks for broad rights. A label considering an AI agreement should identify the recordings it controls, then specify the proposed uses and the payment attached to each permission. A deal covering one set of rights should not be treated as proof that every right needed for the proposed use has been cleared.<\/p>\n

Streaming fraud raises a question about activity, rather than the scope of a training permission. A catalogue owner reviewing a disputed statement needs to know which plays were counted, which were challenged and how any correction changes the amount payable. An AI licence needs a record of authorised use and its agreed price. One cannot substitute for the other.<\/p>\n

That separation gives an independent label a workable negotiation rule: do not use an unexplained streaming adjustment to settle an AI licensing question, and do not treat an AI payment as a correction to streaming royalties. Ask for the calculation behind each amount. Otherwise, the label may be unable to identify whether a shortfall came from an excluded play, a disputed rate or a use that was never priced in the first place.<\/p>\n
