Tope Salami’s name sits inside the credits of Victony’s “Everything,” alongside a long list of other writers. Qobuz lists him as a composer on the February 2024 release, while GrungeCake independently reports his work on the track. A listener may know the recording without knowing that name. For Salami, that gap between the song and the people who built it is also part of his day job: he works as an entertainment lawyer and intellectual property consultant.<\/p>\n

His combination of roles makes a useful portrait of the labour behind Nigerian hits. In an October 2026 interview with GrungeCake, Salami described writing for different voices and adjusting to what each artist needs. In an earlier conversation reported by TheCable, he argued that accurate music data matters because it shapes investment and deal decisions. The two accounts describe a practitioner who thinks about the line a listener remembers and the record a business must be able to identify.<\/p>\n

A credit that can be checked<\/h2>\n

“Everything” is a clear starting point because its documentation is public. Qobuz’s track page<\/a> credits Temitope Salami as a composer, with Victony as main artist. It lists other composers and producers, including Blaise Beatz and KTIZO in production roles. Apple Music and Dork both give the song a February 9, 2024 release date. These are track credits, not a claim that he wrote the song alone or that one contributor supplied a particular lyric or melody.<\/p>\n

That distinction is central to describing collaborative pop accurately. A credit identifies participation in the composition; it does not reveal the division of work in the room. Nor does a public songwriting list tell a reader the private ownership percentages or payment arrangements among the writers. Salami’s interview discusses work that is subject to non-disclosure agreements, but those unnamed songs cannot responsibly be added to a public list of his credits. “Everything” offers something firmer: a named contribution that appears in distributor-supplied retail metadata.<\/p>\n

In GrungeCake’s interview, Salami said he sees songwriting as the role that asks him to express an idea in a way that suits both the artist and the fans. He also described playing local percussion and aiming for subjects people recognise in ordinary life. Those are his descriptions of his process, not a reconstruction of how “Everything” was recorded. The interview does not identify a session date, assign him a specific section of the track or say which instrument he played on it.<\/p>\n

The legal worker behind the creative worker<\/h2>\n

Salami has long spoken about the legal side of Nigerian music. Vanguard profiled him as an entertainment lawyer in 2022, and TheCable identified him as an intellectual property consultant in its report on a Lagos music business conference. In the later GrungeCake interview, he discussed contract clarity and what happens when the working relationship between a creator and a company breaks down. Taken together, these sources establish the overlap of his two professions without turning this profile into a verdict on any artist’s dispute.<\/p>\n

TheCable’s interview is especially revealing about his business instincts. Salami argued that a release’s streams and audience following are data points that investors use when making projections. He also said weak data collection can hurt music publishing. Those are his assessments, not independently measured findings about the size of Nigeria’s data gap. But they explain why a person who writes music might also spend so much time on the records around it: when a contribution is invisible or badly identified, a later business decision has less reliable information to work with.<\/p>\n

A retail credit is only one part of that record. The composer line visible on Qobuz answers the basic question of whether a named writer has been attached to this track. It does not establish the agreement that divided the composition or who administers each share. The “Everything” page should therefore be read as evidence of a credit, not as a royalty statement.<\/p>\n

What the public record can and cannot say<\/h2>\n

The temptation with a behind-the-scenes profile is to turn a long list of famous names into a claim of authorship for every hit. Salami told GrungeCake that he has worked with several prominent Nigerian artists and that some writing cannot be disclosed. This profile does not treat those broad statements as verified song credits. The publicly listed “Everything” contribution is the specific example on which the craft discussion rests. His legal and data views come from interviews in which he spoke for himself, while Vanguard and TheCable independently documented his industry role.<\/p>\n

There is still a larger creative story in that limited record. A song may arrive in the market under one artist’s name while its construction involves many writers, producers and engineers. On “Everything,” the retail metadata makes some of that collaboration visible. Salami’s account of adapting his writing to an artist’s voice helps explain the kind of work a songwriter may do, but the available sources do not let us divide the finished track into individual contributions. That restraint is part of giving the people behind a record their due.<\/p>\n

For Nigerian artists and managers, the practical takeaway is to pay attention to both sides of Salami’s work: the creative contribution and the documentation that follows it. A properly named songwriter credit lets the public see who helped make a record. Clear agreements and usable data are the next questions for the people doing the business.
