A German show needs more than a paid event licence to generate a usable royalty trail. GEMA\u2019s live royalty process also depends on a filed setlist and registered works<\/a>, so the show paperwork must identify both the event and the songs performed.<\/p>\n

The licence and the setlist answer different questions<\/h2>\n

A paid event licence is one condition for German live royalties<\/a>. It establishes that the event has met a licensing requirement. The setlist supplies different information: which works were performed. An artist or label reviewing a show settlement should therefore look for two separate records, evidence of the event licence and the setlist submission. One cannot stand in for the other.<\/p>\n

GEMA\u2019s setlist filing rule is six weeks<\/a>. That makes the performance date an administrative starting point, not merely a line in a tour report. If a team waits until it reviews royalty income to check whether someone filed the songs, it has moved the task out of the period when the filing belongs.<\/p>\n

Put the setlist check beside the settlement check after each show. Record the date of the performance, the works played and whether the setlist was filed. Keep the filing record with the event paperwork. That gives the person reviewing royalties a way to trace a performance back to a submission, rather than asking the performer to reconstruct the running order later.<\/p>\n

A song title needs a work behind it<\/h2>\n

The setlist identifies performed songs, while registered works are another condition in the German live royalty process<\/a>. This is where writing paperwork becomes payment paperwork. A title on a setlist is useful only if the relevant work can be connected to the people and publishing details that govern its claim.<\/p>\n

The contributor list and agreed shares document who participates in the composition. The lyrics and recording help identify the work being discussed. If a song has several writers, the person handling the show should know which agreed version of the shares and publishing details the team is using. The claim window sets a period for following up when an expected royalty needs attention.<\/p>\n

Do not use the annual distribution date as the first occasion to assemble the show file. By then, the useful question is whether the setlist and work records already connect to the performance. The claim window is more useful when a team can name the event, show what was filed and identify the registered works it expects to see paid.<\/p>\n
