SRR Capital\u2019s release model combines artist advances, label services and marketing funds with an equal split of net earnings.<\/a> That makes one phrase central to the release plan: what gets deducted before the split. An independent artist or label should settle that question before choosing paid services, committing campaign money or delivering the recording.<\/p>\n

Start with the net-earnings line<\/h2>\n

An equal split is clear only after the parties agree on the amount being split. If a release agreement pays from net earnings, the operator needs to know which costs enter that calculation, who approves them and when the account is settled. Those are contract decisions, not questions a streaming dashboard can answer after the release.<\/p>\n

SRR Capital names three kinds of support: an advance, label services and marketing funds.<\/a> Put each in a separate line of the proposed budget. Ask whether the advance is recovered from release income, whether services carry a charge, and whether marketing expenditure is deducted before the artist receives a share. Then write down who can increase each line. Without those answers, \u201cequal\u201d describes the division of a balance but says nothing about how large the balance will be.<\/p>\n

Release volume does not fill the gap. Tips Music released the same number of songs in two quarters while its content costs moved sharply.<\/a> A plan based on how many tracks go out can therefore miss the cost of obtaining and preparing them. For each recording, compare the expected rights and production commitments with the actual budget assigned to that recording. Do this before treating a batch of releases as interchangeable.<\/p>\n

Make service purchases explicit<\/h2>\n

Masterchannel mastering is built into the InterSpace Distribution and ToneGrid dashboards: an artist can upload a mix, hear a free full-length preview against the original, and pay only to download the master.<\/a> That sequence creates a useful decision point. The preview lets the release team evaluate the result before a purchase. The downloaded master creates a cost that belongs somewhere in the release budget.<\/p>\n

Assign one person to approve that purchase and record where it sits in the accounting. Is it paid by the artist outside the release arrangement, paid by the label, or included among costs deducted before a net-earnings split? The answer changes the amount each party ultimately receives. A service appearing inside a dashboard does not itself decide who bears its cost.<\/p>\n

The same distinction applies to access and authority. A label can offer mastering inside its release dashboard while the decision about who may deliver the recording and receive royalties remains separate.<\/a> Before a team presses the delivery button, its agreement should identify the party authorized to send the recording to stores and the party entitled to receive the resulting payments. A mastering purchase, a campaign budget and a delivery instruction are three approvals with different consequences.<\/p>\n

Check the payee before delivery<\/h2>\n

The Artist Rights Institute urges distributors to verify uploaders, ownership claims and royalty recipients before recordings reach streaming services.<\/a> An independent team can make those checks part of its own delivery handoff. Confirm who controls the recording, who is submitting it, and which account will receive the money. Have the parties resolve any mismatch before submission, when the release team can still compare the instructions with its agreement.<\/p>\n

This check also connects the contract to the cash flow. A net-earnings calculation can only be administered against income that reaches the intended recipient. If the agreement names one party as the recipient but the delivery instructions name another, the team has a payment problem to settle before it can reliably apply its split. The practical test is simple: the person approving delivery should be able to point to the matching authority and payee instructions.<\/p>\n
