Two ways a play enters the calculation<\/h2>\n

A reported-play allocation starts with usage attributed to particular music. A sampled allocation starts with a selected set of usage and applies that information to a wider pool. Those methods create different questions for an audit. For reported usage, the first question is whether the play reached the collecting body with the right title and rightsholder information. For sampled usage, the first question is whether the repertoire was correctly registered for the pool and whether the sample captured relevant use.<\/p>\n

Brazil\u2019s collecting body uses both methods for music played in shops.<\/a> That means a catalogue owner should identify the allocation method for the shop income under review. A private record of every known play may help investigate reported usage. It cannot, by itself, turn a sampled allocation into a count of that catalogue\u2019s actual shop plays. Treating both kinds of statement as a per-play account would make a reconciliation look more precise than the method permits.<\/p>\n

A dated record of a club play is useful when checking what music was used and whether the work was registered correctly. The record alone does not show that the venue was in the sample or determine the allocation from the sampled pool. Keep the evidence, but use it to frame a specific inquiry rather than treating it as a royalty statement.<\/p>\n

Check the claim before the amount<\/h2>\n

The first catalogue check is the work itself: the title, its writers and the party entitled to administer each share must point to the intended composition. The next check is the income category. Brazil\u2019s shop allocations involve both reported plays and sampled usage<\/a>, while Chile\u2019s club and streaming song royalties use different processes<\/a>.
