The exec plans to launch an advisory services company for creative-focused ventures<\/p>\n
Julie Swidler<\/strong>, Sony Music<\/strong>\u2019s Executive Vice President, Business Affairs and General Counsel, has announced she will depart the company at the end of June.<\/p>\n In the years since she has overseen business, legal, and governmental affairs globally, advising Sony Music\u2019s record labels and operating units on strategic negotiations, talent agreements, litigation, transactions, and joint venture operations.<\/p>\n Prior to 2008 Swidler held senior legal and business affairs jobs at Arista Records<\/strong>, J Records<\/strong>, RCA Records<\/strong>, and BMG<\/strong>.<\/p>\n She began her music industry career at PolyGram Records<\/strong> and Mercury Records<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Swidler served as lead counsel for the 1994 Woodstock Festival<\/strong>, and aided in the start of J Records alongside Clive Davis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In 2026, Swidler was named a Music Visionary of the Year by the UJA-Federation of New York<\/strong>.<\/p>\n A perennial presence on Billboard\u2019s Power 100 list, she has appeared on Billboard\u2019s Women in Music list for nearly two decades.<\/p>\n Swidler became the first woman and first label executive to receive the Grammy Foundation\u2019s Entertainment Law Initiative Service Award.<\/p>\n Swidler also received the T.J. Martell Foundation\u2019s Lifetime Music Industry Award, and the Music Business Association\u2019s Presidential Honor.<\/p>\n Swidler will launch an advisory services practice focused on creative ventures.<\/p>\n Rob Stringer<\/strong>, Chairman, Sony Music Group: \u201cJulie has been a vital component of the Sony Music senior management team for many years and her wisdom, experience, and knowledge has been a bedrock of our company\u2019s strategy and growth.
