The capability is intended to streamline the process of obtaining these codes for individual recordings.<\/p>\n<p>The new functionality enables ISRC assignment through immediate online registration. This is designed to reduce administrative tasks for smaller labels and self-releasing artists who do not manage extensive catalogues, and to ensure recordings are accurately identified from the outset. It operates alongside the existing system where national agencies issue unique ISRC Prefix codes to record companies and rights owners, and to ISRC managers.<\/p>\n<p>SoundExchange operates the automatic ISRC assignment system, utilizing its existing ISRC database, music data expertise, matching processes, and rights administration capabilities. The system checks the database to prevent duplicate ISRC assignments. Once assigned, the ISRC is added to the database and is accessible through a public search page.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReliable, standardized identification is foundational to a fair and efficient music industry,\u201d stated Michael Huppe, President and CEO of SoundExchange. \u201cBy developing the infrastructure necessary to support automated assignment of ISRCs, we\u2019re helping to reduce friction and focus on getting music to market with confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Victoria Oakley, CEO of IFPI, said, \u201cFor the global recording industry, accurate and timely identification of sound recordings is critical. This new capability streamlines the ISRC assignment process while maintaining the integrity of the standard, and we are pleased to partner with SoundExchange to deliver a practical, technology\u2011driven solution for the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ISRCs serve as the globally recognized standard for identifying sound recordings and music videos, and are central to tracking usage, reporting, and rights management.
