Its latest version, submitted in April 2025 after the previous iteration expired with the 2024 election cycle, now explicitly covers deepfakes on streaming music platforms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope the full Senate passes it soon so we can give Americans the security they deserve,\u201d said Senator <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coons.senate.gov\/\">Chris Coons<\/a><\/strong>, one of four lawmakers spearheading the effort.<\/p>\n<h2>Streaming platforms and industry backing<\/h2>\n<p>The updated scope to include streaming services has drawn support from major industry players. <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/spotify-rolls-out-policy-to-identify-ai-music\/\">Spotify<\/a>, YouTube, TikTok, and all three major record labels, along with several industry bodies, have expressed backing for the legislation.<\/p>\n<h2>Call for universal detection standards<\/h2>\n<p>In a joint op-ed, <strong>YouTube<\/strong>\u2019s head of music <strong>Lyor Cohen<\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.recordingacademy.com\/\">Recording Academy<\/a><\/strong> CEO <strong>Harvey Mason Jr.<\/strong> welcomed the bill\u2019s advancement while urging that all platforms adopt robust likeness detection measures.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe infrastructure has to be universal. YouTube has built <a href=\"https:\/\/interspacemusic.com\/blog\/youtube-showcases-new-ai-likeness-detection-tool\/\">likeness detection technology<\/a> that automatically identifies when an artist\u2019s likeness is being used without permission. But an artist protected on one platform is still vulnerable on another.
