Vietnam’s digital music market will clear roughly $52 million in 2025 and push past $74 million by 2030, according to figures cited by Vietnam News<\/a>. Small by regional standards. But streaming already accounts for more than half of it, and the export ambition attached to it is suddenly serious money.<\/p>\n

The signal came in January. Sony Music bought a 49% stake in 1Label JSC, the music arm of Vietnamese media group YeaH1, forming a joint venture called SYE Holdings. Its flagship act is UPRIZE, a seven-member boy band built through a VTV3 reality series, with a debut album slated for April 2026. Outlook Respawn<\/a> framed it plainly: Sony is betting V-pop can travel the way K-pop did.<\/p>\n

Vietnam’s streaming runs on apps most distributors skip<\/h2>\n

Here is the structural catch. Vietnamese listening does not live where a Nashville or Berlin catalog manager expects it to.<\/p>\n

The domestic DSPs carry the volume. DSP means Digital Service Provider, the streaming platforms that pay out royalties. In Vietnam the household names are Zing MP3 and NhacCuaTui, the local duopoly, running alongside Spotify, Apple Music, and a very large YouTube. RMIT University’s digital music research<\/a> has tracked the shift toward global services among younger listeners, but Zing MP3 and NhacCuaTui still anchor mainstream discovery.<\/p>\n

Most global distributors do not deliver to either of them. That is the gap.<\/p>\n

If you are a Vietnamese artist signed to a distributor built for a Spotify-and-Apple world, you are invisible on the two platforms where your home audience actually presses play. And if you are a foreign act hoping to ride the V-pop moment into Southeast Asia, you are missing the shelf.<\/p>\n

The export moment is real, and it is multi-DSP<\/h2>\n

2025 gave V-pop its clearest export year yet. \u0110\u1ee9c Ph\u00fac won the top prize at Intervision 2025 in Moscow, beating contestants from 22 countries. Ph\u01b0\u01a1ng M\u1ef9 Chi placed third out of 32 acts at Sing! Asia in Macau. M\u1ef9 Linh opened a Japan tour. Vietnam News catalogued the run under a telling headline about the industry turning from domestic momentum to global ambition.<\/p>\n

Export ambition is a distribution problem before it is a talent problem. An UPRIZE fanbase built in Vietnam listens on Zing MP3. The same act chasing Japan needs LINE Music. Chasing the Vietnamese diaspora in the US and Australia means Spotify and Apple Music. Chasing the K-pop-adjacent audience means Melon and the Korean platforms.<\/p>\n

No single-storefront strategy covers that map. The artists who convert this moment into revenue will be the ones whose catalog lands, correctly tagged, on every one of those services at once.<\/p>\n

Why the plumbing decides who wins<\/h2>\n

V-pop’s problem is not attention. Attention arrived. The problem is whether the rails underneath can move a release to a dozen storefronts with clean metadata and a royalty trail an artist can actually read.<\/p>\n

InterSpace Distribution delivers to the domestic Vietnamese DSPs, including Zing MP3, alongside the global majors, over a DDEX-native pipeline. DDEX means Digital Data Exchange, the metadata standard streaming platforms use to ingest releases. Splits settle transparently through wallet.interspace.ink, so a producer in Ho Chi Minh City and a topliner in Hanoi see the same numbers.<\/p>\n

Sony spent real money because it believes the next boy band that travels could be Vietnamese. The independents chasing the same window do not need Sony’s balance sheet. They need distribution that already reaches Zing MP3 and LINE Music on day one.
