Almost all of it recorded live, marked &#8220;Ao Vivo.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is the genre most global distributors misread, because it never crosses their desk from abroad.<\/p>\n<h2>The chart nobody outside Brazil sees<\/h2>\n<p>Pro-M\u00fasica, Brazil&#8217;s recording industry body, published a July 2026 study across six platforms: Spotify, YouTube, Deezer, Apple Music, Tidal, and Amazon Music. The headline figure is blunt.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>96% of the Top 50 streaming tracks in Brazil are by Brazilian artists. Only four of the fifty were foreign, <a href=\"https:\/\/rapmidia.com.br\/pro-musica-revela-top-50-streaming-96-faixas-brasileiras-sertaanejo-no-topo\/\">per Pro-M\u00fasica&#8217;s data<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>International hits used to be roughly 15% of the charts. That share has collapsed.<\/li>\n<li>Sertanejo leads outright, with Gusttavo Lima, posthumous Mar\u00edlia Mendon\u00e7a tracks, and Henrique e Juliano in the top positions. Funk and pagode follow.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Roughly 75% of all Spotify Brazil streams now go to domestic artists, <a href=\"https:\/\/portalzonafranca.com\/2025\/12\/dominio-brasileiro-no-streaming-sertanejo-pagode-e-funk-levam-artistas-nacionais-ao-topo-do-spotify-e-da-billboard-brasil\/\">reported Portal Zona Franca<\/a>. Brazil is a market that mostly listens to itself.<\/p>\n<h2>Same country, two different money maps<\/h2>\n<p>Here is where it gets interesting for anyone thinking about where royalties actually come from.<\/p>\n<p>Brazilian funk was Spotify&#8217;s fastest-growing genre above $50 million in 2025, up 36% year over year, ahead of K-pop and reggaeton, <a href=\"https:\/\/musically.com\/2026\/04\/02\/the-2025-royalty-numbers-are-in-loud-clear-updated-with-new-data-takeaways\/\">Music Ally reported<\/a> from the Loud &amp; Clear update. Funk travels. Its streams increasingly come from outside Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>Sertanejo does the opposite. It is bigger at home than funk, yet almost none of its revenue arrives from abroad. The audience, the radio play, the arena tours, and the streams all sit inside Brazil and the Portuguese-speaking diaspora.<\/p>\n<p>That distinction matters, because the whole Brazilian pie grew fast. Brazilian artists generated roughly R$2 billion on Spotify in 2025, up 24%, nearly double the growth of the overall market, <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.spotify.com\/2026-05-11\/artistas-brasileiros-alto-e-claro\/\">Spotify&#8217;s newsroom confirmed<\/a>. Portuguese was the fastest-growing language above $100 million, up 26% in a year.<\/p>\n<h2>Why a sertanejo catalog breaks a generic distributor<\/h2>\n<p>A DSP means a digital service provider, the streaming platform itself. Most distributors optimize for one: a US and UK Spotify playlist pitch. A sertanejo release does not fit that playbook, for three reasons.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The format is live. The &#8220;Ao Vivo&#8221; recording is the commercial version, not the studio cut. One song ships as multiple registered recordings, each needing its own ISRC and clean metadata.<\/li>\n<li>The dupla structure. Sertanejo runs on duos and guest features, so a single track can carry three or four rights holders who each need a transparent split.<\/li>\n<li>The DSP mix is domestic and plural. Pro-M\u00fasica counted six platforms because Brazilian listeners genuinely spread across YouTube, Deezer, and Amazon Music, not just Spotify.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>DDEX means Digital Data Exchange, the metadata standard DSPs use to ingest releases. A distributor that delivers DDEX-native, handles the live-version glut without collapsing duplicates, and pays multi-artist splits cleanly is doing the actual work a sertanejo release demands.<\/p>\n<h2>The takeaway for Brazilian rosters<\/h2>\n<p>If your catalog is sertanejo or pagode, the export-first pitch every majors-focused distributor leads with is noise.
