Chilean acts pulled more than 33 billion pesos on Spotify last year, roughly US$36 million, according to the platform&#8217;s Loud &amp; Clear country data reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnnchile.com\/tendencias\/musica-chilena-genero-ingresos-por-mas-de-33-mil-millones-en-spotify-durante-2025\/\">CNN Chile<\/a>. That is up more than 12% on 2024, and more than double what Chilean music earned in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The bigger milestone sits one level up. Chile&#8217;s total recorded-music streaming revenue passed US$100 million for the first time in 2025, per IFPI figures cited by <a href=\"https:\/\/los40.cl\/2026\/05\/08\/esta-es-la-millonaria-cifra-que-genero-la-musica-chilena-en-spotify-el-2025-historico\/\">LOS40 Chile<\/a>. IFPI means the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, the trade body that audits global recorded-music revenue. Streaming now accounts for close to 90% of what Chilean recorded music earns.<\/p>\n<h2>The money is leaving the country, and that is the point<\/h2>\n<p>Here is the fact that should reshape how any Chilean act plans a release. More than 60% of the royalties Chilean musicians generate on Spotify now come from outside Chile.<\/p>\n<p>Chilean songs pulled over 1.2 billion streams from listeners abroad in a single recent month. The top collection points, per CNN Chile, are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mexico<\/li>\n<li>Argentina<\/li>\n<li>United States<\/li>\n<li>Spain<\/li>\n<li>Colombia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That is not a domestic scene with an export sideline. It is an export business with a home base. A Santiago artist mixing for a bedroom crowd is, in revenue terms, mostly playing to Mexico City and Madrid.<\/p>\n<h2>Gata Only is the template, and it was independent<\/h2>\n<p>The proof of concept is already the biggest Chilean song in a generation. FloyyMenor and Cris MJ released &#8220;Gata Only&#8221; independently in February 2024, and it spent 14 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard&#8217;s Hot Latin Songs chart, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/chart-beat\/floyymenor-cris-mj-gata-only-no-1-hot-latin-songs-1235658443\/\">per Billboard<\/a>. It was the first Chilean track to top that chart since Myriam Hernandez in 1991.<\/p>\n<p>The song has since passed one billion Spotify streams and soundtracked more than four million TikTok videos, drawing an Ozuna and Anitta remix. DSP means digital service provider, the streaming platforms that pay those royalties. &#8220;Gata Only&#8221; earned across every major one, in every one of those five foreign markets, from a release that never touched a major label.<\/p>\n<h2>What Chile&#8217;s independents actually need<\/h2>\n<p>Two numbers define the opportunity. Royalties are more than 60% foreign, and more than 55% of all royalties generated in Chile go to independent artists and labels rather than majors.<\/p>\n<p>That combination describes a very specific artist. Independent, export-dependent, and earning across five or more countries at once from day one. The distribution requirements that follow are unglamorous but decisive:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clean multi-territory delivery to every DSP that matters in Mexico, the US, Spain, Argentina and Colombia, not just the two or three a US-focused distributor prioritizes.<\/li>\n<li>Transparent per-market royalty reporting, so an artist can see that Mexico is out-earning Santiago and route promo accordingly.<\/li>\n<li>Split payments that resolve fast when a track has two headline artists and a producer, the way a &#8220;Gata Only&#8221; style feature does.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That is the argument for a distributor built DDEX-native with transparent wallet splits. DDEX means Digital Data Exchange, the metadata standard that keeps a release consistent as it lands across dozens of platforms and territories. When 60% of your money is arriving from countries you have never performed in, the ledger is the product.<\/p>\n<p>Chilean urbano did not go global by accident, and it did not do it through a major. It did it as an independent export.
