Over a similar period, from 2022 to 2026, the number of monthly listeners in the country grew by 66%.<\/p>\n<h2>Local Icons Power the Surge<\/h2>\n<p>While global acts like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkinpark.com\"><strong>Linkin Park<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mychemicalromance.com\"><strong>My Chemical Romance<\/strong><\/a> remain popular, the streaming increase is largely fueled by homegrown talent. <strong>PXNDX<\/strong>, formed in Monterrey in 1996, now counts more than 3.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify, a 125% rise between 2019 and 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Their 2006 album <em>Amantes Sunt Amentes<\/em> is the most-streamed emo album of all time in Mexico, and its track <em>Los Malaventurados No Lloran<\/em> holds the title of the country&#8217;s most-streamed emo song.<\/p>\n<h2>A Cultural Home for Emo<\/h2>\n<p>Gerardo Mora, Senior Editor at <strong>Spotify<\/strong> Mexico, said that the genre&#8217;s themes resonate deeply in the country.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Sadness and heartbreak are deeply embedded in Mexican culture, from rancheras to telenovelas to the national football team. As a country, we have always found beauty in suffering, and emo found a land that was ready for it.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mora also noted that emo was the first music scene in Mexico built on the internet, creating a digital community that translates directly into today&#8217;s hyper-connected world.<\/p>\n<h2>New Wave of Artists<\/h2>\n<p>A fresh cohort of Mexican acts is reinterpreting the genre. Artists such as <strong>Blnko<\/strong>, <strong>cacomixtle<\/strong>, <strong>Sad Saturno<\/strong>, <strong>San Venus<\/strong>, and <strong>Moorelo<\/strong> are gaining traction.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;There&#8217;s a global revival of pop punk and Y2K culture happening right now. The emo sound and aesthetic is making a comeback. That opens the door for a new generation of Mexican artists, like Blnko and cacomixtle, to take the genre&#8217;s blueprint and make it entirely their own.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Younger Listeners Fuel Growth<\/h2>\n<p>Listeners aged 25 to 34, the original emo generation, still account for more than half of streams in Mexico. However, fans aged 18 to 24 now make up 20% of all emo streams, indicating that the revival is not solely driven by nostalgia.<\/p>\n<p>Between 2020 and 2025, streams of iconic anthems surged, and data shows a rise in first-time listeners for many legacy bands.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I see Mexico&#8217;s emo scene moving toward a moment of celebration between the old and the new. Legacy bands are honoring what they built and commemorating a scene that defined a generation. But what&#8217;s most exciting is that the new bands recognize the importance of what those artists did, and are carrying that legacy forward in their own voices. In Mexico, new times and old friends exist in the same room.
