## The recording and the song are paid separately.

Most independent artists only ever collect the first one.

The recording (master)
- Paid by the stores for streams and downloads of your master.
- This is what your distribution statement shows.

The song (composition)
- Performance royalties when the song is streamed, broadcast or played live.
- Mechanical royalties for every reproduction, including streams.
- Neighbouring rights for performers and rights holders on broadcast and public play.
- Collected by societies and rights organisations, only if the work is registered.

## Publishing questions.

**Is publishing included in my distribution plan?**
Distribution plans collect the recording side. Publishing administration is a separate service for InterSpace artists and labels. Contact us with your catalogue details and we will set it up.
**Why is my publishing income separate from my statement?**
It is collected from different organisations on a different schedule, often quarterly and often a year or more after the play. We report it separately so you can see both sides clearly.
**Do I need to be signed to a publisher?**
No. Administration collects on your behalf without taking ownership of your songs. You stay the owner of your compositions.
**What about cover songs and samples?**
Covers need a mechanical licence before release, which our partner Easy Song Licensing provides for $19.99 plus royalties. Samples need the publisher's permission and cannot be cleared through a compulsory licence.
