Universal Music Group (UMG) has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Stability AI, marking a major step toward developing “next-generation professional music creation tools.”
According to UMG, these upcoming tools will be powered by responsibly trained generative AI, designed to enhance and support the creative process for artists, producers, and songwriters around the world.
As part of the collaboration, Stability AI’s research and product teams will work closely with UMG’s artists and experts to explore new approaches to recording and composition, gain insight into creative workflows, and understand how artists interact with emerging AI technologies.
Stability AI, best known for its Stable Diffusion image generator and Stable Audio model, will also help develop software trained on licensed music catalogs, ensuring that intellectual property and artistry remain protected in the age of AI.
Speaking on the alliance, Michael Nash, Chief Digital Officer & EVP at UMG, emphasized the company’s artist-first approach:
