Musixmatch has named AI music generator Suno as the first customer for its Sentinel copyright detection service, a tool designed to identify protected compositions, lyrics, and music in real time within user-generated content platforms.
Sentinel, which launched in March, taps into what Musixmatch describes as the world’s largest proprietary music database. The system can detect even partial uses of copyrighted material in milliseconds, making it suited for high-volume, real-time production environments such as generative AI music services.
Suno has integrated Sentinel to flag when copyrighted works may be present in its platform. The move arrives as the EU AI Act sets out requirements for labelling AI-generated content.
“The broader landscape calls for robust infrastructure to help platforms understand what is being created and whether copyrighted material is being submitted,” said Rio Caraeff, co-president of Musixmatch. “We’re delighted that Suno is the first platform to adopt Sentinel, as part of their broader approach to responsible AI innovation.”
