Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean have said that new Fugees music is “absolutely” a possibility, as the duo prepares to share a stage for the first UK edition of the Diaspora Calling! festival.
The pair will perform tonight (7th August) at Milton Keynes National Bowl. Ahead of the event, Hill described “an incredible healing process” between them, while Jean said they are “in an amazing place” and that he is “back with my bandmate”.
When asked about the prospect of new material, Jean turned to Hill and asked, “Will there be music in the future?” She replied, “Absolutely”.
The Fugees last performed together at New York’s Global Citizen Festival in 2023, marking the 25th anniversary of Hill’s album ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’. Hill’s sons, Zion and YG Marley, grandsons of Bob Marley, will also appear at Diaspora Calling!, which celebrates Haitian art and music.
The group had previously announced a 25th-anniversary tour for their Grammy-winning debut ‘The Score’, but later cancelled the dates.
Earlier this spring, Hill reflected on her decision not to release a follow-up to ‘The Miseducation’, writing:
“When you’re inspired and desire to be principled, what doesn’t get talked about enough is the drain… nor the challenge to find safety so that you can create with integrity”
In February, Hill led a tribute to the late D’Angelo and Roberta Flack at the 2026 GRAMMY Awards. She was also among the artists inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year.
