A court has granted Universal Music Group and Sony Music permission to depose a former Menlo Ventures executive about a deleted social media post concerning AI music platform Suno. The post is being examined as potential evidence in the labels’ ongoing copyright litigation against the company.

The deleted post

In the post, the executive said he had “personally shifted most of” his music listening to Suno.

The post’s possible legal relevance was raised in March in an open letter addressed to Suno CEO Mikey Shulman.

What the deposition allows

The deposition will let the labels’ legal teams question the executive directly about his comments and his knowledge of the platform’s operations.
