Musixmatch has revealed the winners of its inaugural Musicathon, a week-long virtual hackathon held in June that tasked developers with building AI-powered applications using the company’s lyrics and song metadata APIs. The event drew 523 participants who collectively produced more than 100 tools and apps.

The winning projects highlight a range of creative uses for AI in music, from interactive karaoke to songwriting assistance and educational gaming.

  • Fusion Karaoke: Synchronises lyrics with AI-generated visuals that react to the music in real time, offering a new take on karaoke experiences.
  • Lyri: An AI-powered songwriting assistant designed to help users overcome writer’s block. It integrates APIs from Cyanite, ElevenLabs, and Lalal.ai alongside Musixmatch’s lyrics analysis search API.
  • SoundClash: A multiplayer music-quiz game intended for use in venues and classrooms. It combines AI-driven voice and audio features with Musixmatch’s lyrics catalogue.
