Spotify has started introducing a beta feature called Talk to Spotify that lets users interact with the platform through natural conversation, either by voice or by typing, directly from the Home or Now Playing screens on mobile.
How the feature works
The tool allows back-and-forth exchanges to control playback and explore content. Users can ask for music recommendations, details about artists and albums, or information on their own listening patterns. Queries can also extend to podcasts and audiobooks, such as finding other works by an author or other appearances by a guest.
Examples of supported requests include:
- “Play some artists I haven’t heard before”
- “What’s the inspiration behind Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism? When was the album released?”
- “How many times have I listened to this song?”
Availability
The beta is rolling out gradually to Premium subscribers aged 18 and over in the United States, Ireland, and Sweden, on both iOS and Android devices, in English.
“The new conversational experience is part of our ongoing work to make Spotify more personal and useful for every listener, giving people more ways to get the most out of every moment. Use it your way: press the mic button to talk, type instead, or keep listening like you always have.”
