Vusi Mahlasela will headline the Saturday night jazz programme at Jozi Gold in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, on 25 July, as part of the venue’s ongoing weekly series.

Known as “The Voice”, Mahlasela has built a career spanning more than three decades. His music explores themes of hope, reconciliation, and humanity, and is closely associated with South Africa’s democratic journey.

He has performed internationally and collaborated with artists including Sting, Paul Simon, Dave Matthews Band, Hugh Masekela, and Angélique Kidjo. His Jozi Gold set is expected to draw from his extensive catalogue and feature material from his forthcoming album, Questions and Answers.

“What makes the series special is the range of artists and audiences it continues to bring together,” said Jozi Gold spokesperson Gynis Jardine. “Each Saturday offers a different expression of South African jazz, from established icons to artists shaping its future. Vusi Mahlasela is an important part of that story.”

The programme continues through August with the following line-up:

  • Maleh on 1 August
  • Keenan Ahrends on 8 August
  • Abathwebuli Trio on 15 August
  • Louis Mahlanga on 22 August
  • Herbie Tsoaeli on 29 August
