A rare total solar eclipse will sweep across Ibiza on Wednesday, August 12, prompting a wave of special club events timed to the celestial phenomenon.
Totality is expected between approximately 8:26 p.m. and 8:32 p.m. local time, coinciding with sunset over the Balearic Islands. The eclipse will occur near the horizon, making the shift into darkness more subtle than a typical daytime eclipse.
Club Takeovers and Festival Line-ups
Pikes will host a takeover at 528 Ibiza featuring DJ Harvey, running from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. Guest DJs are yet to be announced.
On Instagram, DJ Harvey said:
“It’s a full solar eclipse with totality lasting over two minutes as the sun sets. I’ll be playing an extended set to soundtrack it before moving the party inside… With all the elements at play with us it’s going to be truly epic!”
The Feels Like Eclipse festival will take over S’Arenal Beach in San Antonio, with headliners Franky Rizardo, Miguelle & Tons, and Adrian b2b Alex O. Additional names are expected soon.
Cova Santa will mark the occasion with a special Woomoon 10 Year Anniversary | Eclipse edition. The long-running bohemian party will feature sets from Sven Väth, André Hommen, Valentín Huedo and Tanika, timed to coincide with the eclipse before continuing into the night.
Viewing Spots and a Nordic Counterpart
For those not attending organised events, locations with unobstructed sightlines will offer the best views. Prime spots include Cala Comte, Cala d’Hort, Es Vedrà, San Antonio Bay and Sa Figuera Borda.
In Iceland, Björk will host the one-day Echolalia festival in Víðistaðatún, Hafnarfjörður, with Arca, Sideproject and Ronja Jóhannsdóttir on the line-up.
