Kickstarter has unveiled a Kickstarter Culture Fund, a $1 million initiative to provide direct financial backing to independent creators in music, art, fashion and film, with an initial partnership channeling additional support to projects based in Scotland.
The fund, financed entirely by Kickstarter, is open to creators worldwide. It will offer direct contributions to live campaigns on the platform, aiming to help independent projects build momentum.
Everette Taylor, CEO at Kickstarter, said: “Creators across all industries, especially artists, musicians, filmmakers, and designers, are facing increasing challenges finding the resources and support they need to bring their ideas to life. By putting resources directly behind creators, we’re helping more ambitious ideas find the support they need to become reality.”
Kickstarter plans to broaden the fund’s reach through collaborations with organizations that share its commitment to independent creators. The first partner, Creative Scotland, the public body that supports arts and culture in Scotland, will allocate £67,500 directly to eligible Kickstarter campaigns. The funding is earmarked for creators with a clear connection to Scotland, where the primary creative activity and beneficiaries are based in the country.
