Spotify and fashion resale platform Depop have partnered to launch six artist-curated shops, a branded playlist, and a two-day pop-up event in Los Angeles.
The move follows a broader trend of artist-led online retail, with Etsy recently launching a ‘Festival Shop’ featuring Laufey, PinkPantheress, and Willow Avalon, and a separate partnership with Olivia Rodrigo.
The Spotify-Depop shops go live on 12 August, with each artist offering a personal collection of clothing and accessories from their own wardrobes. The participating musicians are:
- Eve
- Amira Elfeky
- Estevie
- Frost Children
- House of Protection
- Lily Meola
The collaboration also includes a takeover of the Hollywood Premiere Motel in Los Angeles, featuring live performances and interactive, genre-inspired closet installations.
Depop, founded in Italy in 2011 and later headquartered in London, was acquired by Etsy in 2021 for $1.6 billion. In February, Etsy announced the sale of Depop to eBay for $1.2 billion; the transaction closed two weeks ago. eBay highlighted Depop’s “highly-engaged Gen Z and Millennial customer base” as a key attraction, noting the platform has seven million active buyers, nearly 90% of whom are under 34, and more than three million active sellers.
