The Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC) is seeking songwriter candidates for six governance seats as several board and advisory committee terms approach their end later this year.

The Music Modernization Act (MMA) reserves certain positions in The MLC’s governance for songwriter representatives. Candidate suggestions are due by May 26, 2026.

The positions are:

  • Two songwriter seats on the Board of Directors.
  • Two songwriter seats on the Dispute Resolution Committee. The committee advises the board on policies and procedures for processing royalties tied to works with disputed ownership.
  • Two songwriter seats on the Unclaimed Royalties Oversight Committee. The committee advises the board on policies and procedures for distributing accrued royalties that remain unclaimed.

The MLC will forward every recommendation it receives to the board’s Songwriter Nominating Committee for consideration. Its bylaws govern how seats are filled.

Board and committee members serve three-year terms and can be re-elected.

The board and committees hold regular meetings, all of which permit virtual attendance, so travel is generally unnecessary. Members are expected to set aside enough time to prepare and participate fully.
