Pacific Music Group (PMG) has launched PMG Japan with a Tokyo office and signed Japanese hip-hop artist JP THE WAVY to a long-term recording and 360 management agreement. The partnership covers his recording career, management, international promotion, touring opportunities and brand partnerships, targeting audience growth across Asia, the United States and other markets.

Japan leadership and artist plans

Tomomi Takeshima and MiMi Shimada will jointly lead the division, bringing experience in Japan’s music industry and international artist development. JP THE WAVY is its first major signing, with new music expected this fall.

Jonathan Serbin, chief executive officer of Pacific Music Group, said: “Our goal with PMG Japan is to give artists like him the infrastructure and global reach to compete on the world stage while staying true to what makes them unique.”

JP THE WAVY, whose work spans hip-hop and Japanese fashion and youth culture, said he wants the partnership to help him reach more listeners internationally.

“Together with PMG, I hope to share more of my music with people not only in Japan, but around the world. As I continue to take on new challenges, I hope to further develop my sound and connect more closely with listeners around the world through my music and everything I do.”

He also said he has an album on the way.

Tokyo office and additional signings

The Tokyo team will handle artist development, recorded music, management, promotion and international partnerships. It joins PMG’s operations in Hong Kong and Seoul, alongside teams working across China, India and Southeast Asia.

PMG also announced three additional Asian artist signings:

  • Fyeqoodgurl from Thailand.
  • Nasi (Li Zhi Ting) from Taiwan.
  • Zolie Chan from Hong Kong.
