Lillie West: “I lived in London until I was 13 as both of my parents are English, then we moved to LA, but when I was 18, they moved back to England and I moved to Chicago for 8 years. It’s pretty complicated, because I then moved to New Mexico, then Iceland and now I’m back in LA.”
When asked about retaining an English accent, West stated, “All of my English relatives say I have a strong American accent, but my boyfriend says I couldn’t sound more British, so I don’t know what to believe.”
West recalled attending Darius Danesh’s concert as her first live show, noting, “On the first season of Pop Idol, he finished third place – Darius. That was my first show.” She expressed sadness upon learning of Danesh’s recent passing.
Regarding her initial attraction to Danesh, West suggested, “I have no idea. I was so young, so I barely remember but maybe I’ve always loved an underdog.”
The conversation shifted to Robbie Williams, with West observing that, “as his documentary lays out, he didn’t really translate to America, even though he was so massive in England.” She noted that an audience she was with only knew Williams’ song “Let Me Entertain You,” and were unfamiliar with “Angels” or “Rock DJ.”
West then identified the band Why? as the first concert she remembers with more clarity, stating she attended the show in London while still young enough to require her godmother’s accompaniment.
