Amelie Lens has surprised her grandmother with a new apartment, fulfilling a lifelong promise to the woman who raised her. The Belgian techno DJ and producer shared the emotional moment on Instagram earlier this week, posting a video of her grandmother, Elizabeth, touring the home for the first time.
“Since I was a little girl, I made a silent promise to myself. My ultimate lifelong dream was to take care of the woman who sacrificed everything to take care of me. And I finally did it a few months ago. I bought a dream apartment for my grandmother as a surprise (with an extra apartment upstairs for a caretaker). She was in shock at first, but she is moved in now and living her best life like the queen she is. No more cold winters, no more stairs, having my aunts upstairs to take care of her. Just safety, comfort and peace. Seeing her so happy is the greatest achievement of my entire life. She gave me a future and now I get to give her the world. Je t’aime Mémé.”
The Instagram post had received 272,000 likes at the time of writing, with thousands of fans leaving messages of support.
A Grandmother’s Influence
In a 2023 interview, Lens described her grandmother as “an amazing woman” and spoke about the bond they share. “She’s super open-minded and so invested in everything I do,” Lens said. “She did not have much, but she gave me everything.”
Lens added that being raised by a grandmother created a unique perspective. “I always feel so connected with other people who were also raised by their grandmother. I feel like we are like old souls, because of that older connection. It’s a different education and way of seeing the world.”
Debut Album on the Horizon
Lens is preparing to release her debut album, AURA, on 4th September via her EXHALE imprint. The 11-track record follows her recent single “whatever you do,” which arrived in April via Sony Music.
Lens was voted No. 38 in a 2025 industry poll.
