South African vocal group The Joy have released a new single, ‘Precious’, their first track to feature predominantly English-language vocals.
Produced by Grammy Award-winning producer P2J, known for work with Beyoncé, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Tems, the song blends English and isiZulu lyrics with contemporary pop elements and the group’s signature harmonies. A visualiser accompanies the release.
The KwaZulu-Natal five-piece first gained attention with the viral single ‘Isencane Lengane’ and the 2021 EP Amabutho. They have since performed on The Jennifer Hudson Show and Later… with Jools Holland, and received public endorsements from artists including Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys, Sam Smith and Jennifer Hudson.
Their international profile has grown through collaborations with Doja Cat and The Blessed Madonna, and a feature on Jennifer Hudson’s Christmas album The Gift of Love. The group also performed with Doja Cat at the Global Citizen Africa event and has amassed over one million followers on TikTok.
Founded in KwaZulu-Natal, The Joy combine traditional South African vocal styles with contemporary pop. ‘Precious’ explores themes of love and commitment while maintaining the group’s focus on vocal harmony and emotional storytelling.
