The Joy, a vocal quintet from KwaZulu-Natal, have released a new single, Omunye, blending Zulu and English lyrics with polished pop production as they prepare a forthcoming EP.

A Bilingual Afro-Pop Crossover

The track pairs the group’s signature layered harmonies with contemporary arrangements, exploring themes of love. Sung in both Zulu and English, it aims to connect with a wider audience while preserving the cultural roots that define their sound.

International Production Team

The single was crafted with a global team of songwriters and producers. Gian Stone, known for work with Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber, and Sol Was, who has credits with Beyoncé and Timbaland, contributed to the track. Producer Two Inch Punch, a previous collaborator, also returned for the project.

Building on Global Momentum

The release follows a period of growing international recognition for the group. They have drawn support from artists including Justin Bieber, Alicia Keys, Doja Cat, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, and Jennifer Hudson. The Joy have also collaborated directly with Doja Cat and The Blessed Madonna.

Television appearances on The Jennifer Hudson Show and Later… with Jools Holland have further introduced their harmonies to new audiences. They contributed to Jennifer Hudson’s holiday album, The Gift of Love, and worked with The Blessed Madonna on Shades of Love.

From Viral Debut to EP

The Joy first gained attention with the viral single Isencane Lengane, which led to their 2021 EP Amabutho. That project showcased their vocal arrangements and South African influences, laying the groundwork for subsequent growth. Omunye builds on that foundation, merging their roots with contemporary Afro-pop and international production expertise.
