South African singer-songwriter Amy Tjasink has shared the tracklist for her forthcoming album Valley Girl, a nine-song project she describes as a chronicle of personal upheaval, healing, and self-discovery.

A Project Born from Adversity

Tjasink said the album helped her process difficult moments she experienced over the past two years. Writing the songs became a source of comfort and strength during a turbulent period, allowing her to reflect on different stages of her life. The creative process gave her an opportunity to revisit memories, emotions, and experiences that shaped her, and she discovered a deeper connection with her music and a new level of honesty.

Themes of Light and Resilience

The album explores hope, resilience, and emotional recovery through tracks such as Sunshine, Shadows of the Sun, and Holly’s Lullaby. Sunshine carries a message of optimism, while Shadows of the Sun examines the contrast between challenges and the possibility of brighter days. Holly’s Lullaby adds a layer of comfort and reflection.

Other songs, including the title track Valley Girl, Freebird, and Kommetjie Boys, focus on self-reflection and discovering what truly matters. Valley Girl serves as the central piece, representing the memories and emotions that influenced the album. Freebird introduces themes of freedom and personal transformation, while Kommetjie Boys draws on a sense of place, nostalgia, and connection.

Tracklist and Collaborations

The track Up 2 U has generated curiosity among fans. Tjasink hinted at a guest appearance by Rebel Bunnysongs and encouraged listeners to discover the song’s meaning for themselves. The full tracklist is:

  • Valley Girl
  • Freebird
  • Shadows of the Sun
  • Feels lite Mzansi

The inclusion of a sunset version of Freebird offers an alternate interpretation of one of the album’s key songs.
