Beatport will no longer accept tracks that are fully or majority AI-generated, the online dance music store and streaming platform announced as part of updated content guidelines. Such uploads will be blocked during ingestion and rightsholders will be notified.

Music that is primarily human-made but created with AI assistance remains eligible. Those releases will be tagged during ingestion so that Beatport’s curation team has clear visibility when reviewing and featuring content.

To support the new policy, Beatport has expanded its partnership with Beatdapp, a music fraud detection specialist. The enhanced collaboration will help the platform distinguish between fully AI-generated material and tracks that use AI as a creative tool. Beatport and Beatdapp initially partnered to combat streaming fraud.

A recent Beatport user survey found that 60% of DJs would not play AI-generated tracks. Only 8% said they were open to doing so, while 13% would consider it if artists and labels were fairly compensated.

“Beatport exists to serve DJs and empower artists & labels. This means partnering with our community and providing confidence in what our platform offers,” said Matt Gralen, Beatport CEO. “While new production techniques have driven electronic music forward since the beginning, there is a difference between a tool that assists human creation and a system that replaces it entirely. Beatport is built on the former.”
