Canada’s Budget 2026 reaffirms a previously announced $600 million investment in the country’s audio and audiovisual sectors and outlines a proposed tax credit for artists. Music Canada welcomed both measures.

The funding commitment follows a June announcement and is intended to support Canadian content internationally while keeping it affordable and accessible in Canada. Patrick Rogers, Music Canada’s chief executive officer, said the government’s forthcoming streaming policy should help Canadian artists compete globally without disrupting listeners’ streaming experience.

The proposed Canada Creative Credit would provide artists with tax relief on earned income up to $45,000. Miranda Mulholland, Music Canada’s Creative Culture Advisor, said the credit could help working artists reinvest in recordings and develop their craft. She also said its design should reflect how artists earn a living.

Music Canada also welcomed the budget’s continued support for copyright alongside government investment in artificial intelligence innovation.
