Milky Chance’s 2013 debut single “Stolen Dance” has surpassed 2 billion streams on Spotify, making the German duo the first act from their country to reach that threshold, according to their label partner Believe.
The track, which took nine years to reach 1 billion streams, added the second billion in less than half that time. It recently climbed to its highest-ever position on Spotify’s Germany chart, while its official video has also crossed 1 billion views on YouTube.
Long-Term Catalog Strategy
Believe, which has worked with Milky Chance since 2021 on a long-term international strategy to expand the band’s catalog and build new releases, highlighted the achievement as evidence of the enduring power of German repertoire in the streaming era.
Thorsten Freese, Believe’s managing director for Germany, said:
“This continued trajectory demonstrates the enormous power of long-term catalog work and shows that repertoire from Germany can continue to grow globally many years after its initial release, provided it is nurtured sustainably over time.”
Streaming and Social Surge
Milky Chance currently has 18.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Their latest album, Living In A Haze, has accumulated more than 700 million streams across all services. The band’s music has also generated over 40 billion views on TikTok, with 8 billion of those occurring in the last six months.
“The fact that a song we recorded as teenagers in our home studio is still connecting with people all over the world today makes us incredibly happy.”
