Palms Trax has released his first solo single in five years, “Soft Trance, Hard Gossip,” ahead of a new double-A side EP.
New Single and EP Details
The track is taken from the forthcoming EP ‘Keys To A Painted Garden,’ which will be released in full on 22nd August via fabric Records. Palms Trax announced the single on Instagram on 22nd July, writing:
“I actually have a single out today in news I can scarcely believe myself. I once read that John Maus spent five years building his own synthesiser thinking it would give his music a fresh edge only to realise afterwards it sounded exactly the same, and much like that this is a continuation of my ~sentimental dance music for YouTube~ aesthetic the long way round.”
He also commented on the label choice:
“I always loved the fabric mix series coming of age and admire any institution that survives a monster stint in clubland so it felt like a natural home. Looking forward to getting more out with them in the near and not so distant future!”
Built around a melodic synth hook, heavy low end and gradually intensifying percussion, “Soft Trance, Hard Gossip” delivers a club-focused sound with intricate production details. The EP’s title track moves in a different direction, exploring deeper, jazz-leaning broken beats and IDM (intelligent dance music) textures.
Label Activity
While Palms Trax has stepped back from solo releases, his imprint Cooking With Palms Trax has remained active. The label has issued records from Theo Kottis, Moving Willow and Willow, along with several DJ mixtapes.
