Nigerian singer-songwriter ru. (Ruth Unde) has released a new five-track EP, SILK, a project that examines womanhood, love, vulnerability, and self-discovery.
The EP arrived on 5 August, building on a string of singles that have raised the Abuja-born artist’s profile in Nigeria’s contemporary music scene. Blending Afropop, soul, and alternative R&B, SILK traces the emotional experiences of femininity through songs centred on resilience, desire, and personal growth.
In a statement, ru. described the project as a meditation on womanhood. “SILK is my meditation on womanhood, a tender, self-assured body of work that honours the beauty of becoming. It’s a love letter to women navigating love, desire, vulnerability and self-discovery.”
She added that the EP embraces softness as a source of strength. “Like the fabric itself, SILK is delicate in feel yet enduring in strength. It explores femininity as both intimate and powerful, tracing longing, resilience, beauty and quiet transformation.”
The five tracks are “Entertainer,” “Girly Girl,” “Colours,” “Falling,” and “Adam.”
The release expands on themes first introduced in her single “WOMAN,” produced by Mr Eff and mixed and mastered by Johnny Drille, which debuted at number 25 on Nigerian radio. ru. previously gained recognition with the singles “I Think I Love U” and “I Think I Love U 2,” featuring Magixx; combined, the two songs have accumulated more than one million streams across digital platforms.
ru.’s music fuses contemporary Afropop with soul and alternative R&B, drawing on personal experiences, faith, and emotional storytelling. With SILK, she continues to build her catalogue within Africa’s alternative pop and R&B landscape.
