SubmitHub AI Music Detector Finds 31% of Artists Deny AI Use

SubmitHub’s AI music detector found that 31% of artists denied AI use in July 2026 despite positive detection, while nearly 40% of tracks used synthetic generation.

SubmitHub‘s SH Labs analyzed more than one million track releases in July 2026 with its artificial intelligence (AI) music detector and found a gap between actual AI use and artist disclosure. The results show that hybrid production, where human and synthetic elements are combined, has become widespread.

Hybrid production is now common

Generative audio tools have become standard features in digital audio workstations. Rather than choosing between fully human or fully AI-generated tracks, creators are blending generative stems, AI vocal processors, and modified synthetic samples with traditional songwriting.

The study found that nearly 40% of music relies on some form of synthetic generation. This level of adoption makes simple AI bans difficult to enforce across music platforms.

Disclosure falls behind detection

During submission, 31% of artists who tested positive for AI audio denied using it. The discrepancy indicates that platform self-reporting requirements are no longer sufficient on their own.

SubmitHub’s AI Music Detector was originally created to help curators filter music submissions. It has achieved over 99% accuracy on confidential industry benchmarks and detects nuanced hybrid production rather than applying a simple binary yes/no flag.

Industry adoption and next steps

The detector is now used across the industry by:

The SubmitHub study shows that the industry cannot enforce simple AI bans when nearly 40% of music relies on some form of synthetic generation. The study states that the goal is not to penalize hybrid artist workflows, but to bring transparency to rights management, curation, and payouts. Platforms that embrace high-accuracy, granular detection will lead the next era of fair music distribution, according to the study.
